Gratulasjonsbrev til Palestinas statsminister

Dear Prime Minister,

On the occasion of your appointment as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority, and the announcement of the new Palestinian government, I would like to extend my congratulations to you for taking on this important responsibility under these complex and critical circumstances facing your people.

Norway condemned the terror attack against Israel 7 October and the loss of innocent lives. In the following weeks and months, Norway has strongly spoken out against the disproportionate use of force by Israel against Gaza and the civilian population. Norway has required an immediate cease fire and access og humanitarian relief to all of Gaza as well as the immediate release of hostages.

Norway has been supportive of the Palestinian Authority since its establishment, and we enjoy close bilateral relations with Palestine. At this critical time allow me to express my deepest concern about the developments in the Middle East, and my heartfelt condolences to you, your government and the people of Palestine for the tragic loss of innocent lives and the ongoing suffering of so many civilians.

In this very difficult time for the Palestinian people, the government of Norway welcomes an empowered and strong Palestinian government. A Government that can implement institutional reform, unite the West Bank and Gaza under one Palestinian leadership, develop a more independent Palestinian economy, and work for a political process towards peace and a two-state solution. I trust you will engage in inclusive consultations internally in Palestine in order to ensure broad support for the important and challenging task that lies ahead.

Norway is looking forward to working closely with you and your government to this end, both as a partner and as a friend. As Chair of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC), the Donor Group for Palestine, Norway will, together with the parties and contributing partners continue supporting all efforts that can lead to further strengthened and unified determination for the Palestinian people, and for the establishment of and independent Palestinian state within a two-state solution.

I wish you all the best and every success in all the important tasks that lie ahead and look forward to working closely together with you and your government in the time to come.
