The UN’s Permanent forum for Indigenous Issues is an advisory body to the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The forum shall give advice and make recommendations in matters that concern indigenous people in the fields of economic and social development, culture, education, health and human rights. Norway has played an active part in the work to establish the indigenous peoples forum.
The first meeting of the Permanent Forum was held in May 2002, with yearly sessions thereafter. The Government supports actively the work of the Permanent Forum.
