Animal welfare white paper

The Norwegian government has started work on a new white paper on animal welfare to present to parliament, the Storting. The white paper will report on all animals covered by the Animal Welfare Act, including aquatic animals. Newest research on animal welfare, as well as developments in Norwegian animal husbandry and livestock production, will be a central element. The animal industry will profit from robust framework conditions ensuring predictability and long-term perspective, with all current concerns capably balanced. At the same time, social and consumer trends should not be ignored. Working on the white paper to the Storting, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Trade and Fisheries will be responsible for their respective administrative areas.
