The principle of the child's best interests is safeguarded in the formulation of the Immigration legislation and the child’s best interests are also emphasised in cases pursuant to this law.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has primary responsibility for immigration law. This also includes cases that concern children. Individual cases are dealt with by the the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) which are under the authority of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The Ministry of Children and Families does not provide assistance in individual cases.
