Norway-EU energy cooperation

Norway has a close cooperation with the EU on energy issues, and is part of the internal energy market through the EEA agreement. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has regular contact with the Commission. The Norwegian Minister and the EU Commissioner meet on a regular basis through the EU-Norway Energy Dialogue.

The Ministry's EEA Strategy describes how the Ministry's work on EU/EEA matters is organised, and sets out goals and priorities. It includes a list of important fora in which the Ministry participates, and useful links to more information.

How the Ministry's work on EU/EEA matters is organised:

  • The      responsibility for each legislative act lies within the relevant units of      the Ministry.
  • The      Ministry's internal EEAcoordination      group discusses and coordinates the      Ministry's work.
  • The Energy Counsellor in Brussels follows EU      energy policy closely and reports back to the Ministry.
  • Energy      acts are discussed with other relevant Ministries in regular meetings ("spesialutvalget      for energy").
  • The      Ministries also meet regularly to discuss EU matters of a general nature ("koordineringsutvalget      for EU/EØS")
  • Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein meet in EFTA's      working group on energy
  • The      Ministry organises regular meetings with Norwegian stakeholders to discuss      relevant EU issues in the energy field.
