CLIMIT - Research, development and demonstration of CO2 capture and storage technology
Article | Last updated: 25/10/2021 | Ministry of Energy
The CLIMIT programme is Norway’s national programme for research, development and demonstration of CO2 capture and storage technology (CCS). It covers the entire chain from long-term, competence-building basic research to projects that demonstrate CO2 capture and storage technology technologies.
The program is administered by Gassnova in collaboration with the Research Council of Norway. They share the responsibility with the Research Council of Norway responsible for the research projects and Gassnova for the prototype and demonstration projects.
The project portfolio is geared towards technology solutions for cost-effective and safe capture, transport and storage of CO2.
The Ministry of Energy established CLIMIT in 2005 to support the development of technology for CO2 management for gas-fired power plants. In 2008, the support scheme was expanded to power production based on all fossil fuels, and in 2010 industrial emissions were also included. From 2021, the scheme includes support for all possible CO2 sources.
Significant technology development has taken place through projects funded by the CLIMIT program, and considerable expertise has been built up in Norway, both in the research communities and with the industry partners. CLIMIT places emphasis on developing innovative projects, and opportunities for future industrialization and value creation in Norwegian industry. Cooperation with foreign research environments and industry is also a priority.
More information about the program can be found on Climit's website.
