Jens Stoltenberg's First Government
17. March 2000–19. October 2001
Labour Party (A)
Jens Stoltenberg’s First Government was appointed by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 17 March 2000, effective as of the same day at 12 noon. It succeded Kjell Magne Bondeviks First Government, after this Government had seen a vote of no confidence in the Storting on the issue of gasworks.
In a session of the Council of State on 17 October 2001, Jens Stoltenberg’s First Government handed in its resignation, as general elections on 10 September 2001 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government. Permission to leave was granted by King Harald V in a session of the Council of State on 19 October 2001, effective as of the same day at 12 noon. At the same time, Kjell Magne Bondevik’s Second Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
Secretary to the Council of State in this period:
Secretary General Bjørn T. Grydeland
