Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Second Government was appointed by King Olav V in a session of the Council of State on 9 May 1986, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. It succeded Kåre Willoch’s Government, after this Government has received a vote of no confidence in the Storting on restrictive economic measures.
In a session of the Council of State on 13 October 1989, Gro Harlem Brundtland’s Second Government handed in its resignation, as general elections on 11 September 1989 had rendered a majority in the Storting for a change of government. Permission to leave was granted by King Olav V in a session of the Council of State on 16 October 1989, effective as of the same day at 2 p.m. At the same time, Jan P. Syse’s Government was appointed, effective as of the same point of time.
