Emil Stang's First Government
13. July 1889–6. March 1891
Conservative Party (H)
Emil Stang’s First Goverment was appointed by King Oscar II in a session of the Council of State on 12 July 1889, effective as of 13 July 1889. It succeded Johan Sverdrup’s Government, which had seen a vote of no confidence in the Storting.
In a session of the Council of State on 6 March 1891, Emil Stang’s First Government handed in its resignation, as the Storting majority had voted that the office as Swedish-Norwegian foreign minister should be open to Norwegian citizens. Permission to leave was granted by King Oscar II in the same session of the Council of State, effective as of the same day. At the same time, Johannes Steen’s First Government was appointed, effective as of the same day.
