Section for Public Health

The Section has tasks within the areas mental health, health analyses, environmentally friendly healthcare, infection control (including HIV prevention efforts) and radiation protection.

The Section works on health promotion and preventive work in the areas of physical activity, environmentally friendly healthcare, infection control, injury prevention and facilitation of an age-friendly society.

Furthermore, the Section is responsible for oversight of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority, as well as health emergency preparedness for infection control, nuclear and chemical incidents.

The Section manages the Public Health Act, Radiation Protection Act and Nuclear Energy Act. Furthermore, the Section coordinates budget, financial affairs and other joint matters within the Department.
