The purpose is to combat international VAT fraud. The Director-General of the European Commission, Gerassimos Thomas, signed the amendment agreement on behalf of the EU.
An agreement between Norway and the EU on administrative cooperation to combat VAT fraud came into effect on the 1st of September 2018. The agreement ensures effective information exchange, control cooperation, and assistance in the collection of VAT claims.
Following the conclusion of the agreement, the EU has further developed its tools for administrative cooperation to tackle VAT fraud more effectively. The signed amendment agreement enables the Norwegian tax authorities to take part in more of these tools.
Now that the signing has been completed, a proposition will be presented to the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament) for consent to entry into force.
