Norway and Denmark agree to donate an additional 9,000 rounds of artillery to Ukraine. Norway provides the shells, while Denmark donates fuzes and propellant charges.
The two countries made a similar donation earlier this year.
Norway is also donating 7,000 rounds from own stocks. These are already sent to Ukraine.
- Ukraine has an urgent need for artillery ammunition. We have therefore decided to join forces with Denmark for a new donation, so that Ukraine receives the ammunition as quickly as possible, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
- It is important that we continue to stand together in demonstrating our support of Ukraine. Norway will continue to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion forces as long as it is needed, says Gram.
Previously, Norway donated 20,000 artillery rounds. With the donations now being announced, Norway has donated a total of 27,000 artillery rounds alone, and 17,000 together with Denmark.
- Ukraine still has an urgent need for ammunition in its fight against Russia. Denmark, together with other EU and NATO countries, is in the process of accommodating a number of different measures. Together with Norway, we can now send more than 9,000 complete artillery rounds within a short time, says Acting Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. In addition, Denmark itself will donate further 1,500 complete artillery rounds and 500 shells.
The artillery rounds can be used in several types of artillery, including the M109 that Norway previously has donated.
The ammunition will be replaced through acquisition of new munitions.
