Costs for emergency network terminals for the voluntary rescue service

The Norwegian Government proposes granting NOK 10 million to voluntary organisations in the rescue service to cover the annual operating and subscription costs of 2 000 new emergency network terminals.
‘The voluntary rescue service is essential because it saves lives throughout the country. It is important to operate more emergency network terminals to enable a crucial part of the rescue service to participate effectively in search and rescue missions,’ says Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilie Enger Mehl.
Although the proposal regarding emergency network terminals for voluntary organisations primarily represents an investment in an emergency preparedness measure and management tool, it is important for other reasons as well.
During a crisis, volunteers will be able to help the authorities during power outages, infrastructure disruptions, and by supporting the local population. During such situations, the emergency network will be an important communication tool in their efforts and communication with the police and others.
The Rescue Forum for Norwegian Voluntary Organisations (FORF) has proposed that it will pay for procurement of the terminals using the funds it has received from the Gjensidige Foundation, and that the Norwegian Government covers the operating expenses.
