Launch of Norway's new humanitarian strategy
Press release | Date: 15/05/2024 | Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide and Minister of Development Cooperation Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim will launch the government's new strategy for Norwegian humanitarian policy on Wednesday 15 May.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and representatives of the major Norwegian humanitarian aid organisations will also be present at the launch.
'It is important to discuss the humanitarian challenges facing the world and how Norway and our new strategy can contribute to the efforts to save lives, alleviate suffering and protect civilians against violence and abuse,' said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of International Development will present the main points of the new strategy. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees will also speak about refugees and internally displaced persons.
'Humanitarian needs are increasing dramatically all around the world. The safety of humanitarian workers is more threatened than ever, and respect for international humanitarian law is being challenged. Record numbers of people are affected by food shortages and hunger. This is the backdrop against which we are now launching this new strategy for how we will use Norwegian humanitarian efforts in the years to come," says Minister for International Development Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim.
When: Wednesday 15 May at 09.15-11.00. Attendance from 08.30.
Location: Oslo Concert Hall, Lille Sal
